The Zeez Sleep Pebble is a sleep device like no other.

Trackers of many different kinds now show us how hard we find it to fall asleep, how often we wake in the night, how light our slumber. But there isn’t much available to actively help our sleep quality so that we sleep more deeply, wake less, and feel good when we wake up.

Put the Zeez Sleep Pebble under your pillow, then let it guide you to fall asleep, stay asleep, and sleep deeply so that you wake up feeling rested and ready for the day. No headband, no sticky pads, no noise or vibration. And no links to your computer or smartphone. You won't need a tracker to know that you have slept better. One button. Pure simplicity.

How does the Zeez Sleep Pebble achieve what nothing else does? By pulsing tiny signals at the same frequencies as the electric pulses generated by the brain during good sleep in a pattern that changes with your nightly sleep cycles. The Zeez Sleep Pebble is simple to use, but its patented electronics and  programming are sophisticated. For most of us, the Zeez Sleep Pebble works wonderfully. It doesn’t matter how long we’ve been sleeping poorly, how old we are, or what else we have going on. In our tests, around 80% experience dramatically better sleep.

How does it work?

When we sleep well, we activate areas of the brain that generate very slow frequencies. A poor sleeper does not do this, or at least, not for long enough. His or her brain activity is dominated by faster signals associated with wakefulness and light sleep. The Zeez Sleep Pebble is designed to prompt missing activity. We found that if you can’t relax, or find it hard to switch off, you’ll be missing certain alpha frequencies in the range of 8-12 Hz. If you can’t fall asleep, you’ll be missing theta frequencies (4- 8 Hz) and if you sleep too lightly you’ll be missing delta frequencies (0.5 – 4Hz).

Most importantly, we found that by pulsing out the missing frequencies at appropriate times of the night in accordance with the timing of our nightly sleep cycles most of us fall asleep, stay asleep, and sleep deeply. We do this using a sophisticated microprocessor and patented circuit board designed to create tiny pulses with varying frequencies similar to those of the brain.

The pulses of the Zeez Sleep Pebble match the speed, duration and form of the natural brainwaves of a good sleeper through relaxation and deep, restorative sleep.

It took a lot of work to identify precisely the frequencies associated with good sleep and how to reproduce them.  Once we had done that, we tested prototypes for several years, with hundreds of people. We have been working on our technology for almost a decade, without academic help, external funding, or major independent testing. Why? Because we knew that we had something really good and we didn’t want to waste time or energy trying to persuade others that we could do something that no one else had yet achieved. We didn’t want to be side-tracked. Also, we couldn’t afford it. We failed to get grants, perhaps because our ideas seemed too different.

Now that we have our device, you can try it and see what you think. And we will commission independent research as we can afford it. Probably not a big “Does it work or not?” trial: the Zeez Sleep Pebble is not a medical device and it is enough for us to say that it may help your sleep.  We would love to do some targeted research, which would be medical, to see if the Zeez Sleep Pebble or a variation of it could help a variety of medical conditions.

Independent trials.

A small double-blind trial comparing the Zeez Sleep Pebble with a placebo device was undertaken at Coventry University. Periodically, participants slept on a sleep mat designed to monitor sleep quality. They also completed questionnaires.  Unfortunately, our requirement to switch off nearby electrical equipment (which may disturb the Zeez Sleep Pebble and interfere with its efficacy) was misunderstood, and participants were told to switch off equipment if it was disturbing their sleep. The results were all over the place, and since the students had moved on, we couldn’t revisit the trial and do it properly. A great shame.

Dr Camille Carroll at Plymouth School of Medicine is undertaking a case series study amongst patients suffering with Parkinson’s disease. The Zeez Sleep Pebble is being added to their ordinary treatment. We expect preliminary result results during soon.
